This particular recording is done with Contact mics, taped onto a wire fence, on top of Sheriffmuir. You could stand by this fence all day long and be completely unaware of the sounds that are being created by vibrations passing through the wires. This one sounds like there is a gale force wind going on, but actually it was a bright sunny day, with only a light breeze! It sounds haunting, with hollow echoes of the wires rattling along its length. The potential for some really good sound design from this is huge, and of course, I will be doing just that with this recording, at some point.
Keep an open mind when listening to the hidden sound categories, and understand that this phenomenon is going on all around you, every where you go, you just don’t hear it.
This Category, Hidden Sounds, is one of my favourites! Why? Well, mainly because they are hidden sounds, you cant hear it with the human ear, unless you attach special microphones to listen. I particularly like recording these sounds also, because you have to go out and hunt for them, its trial and error, what you might think will be very interesting with contact mics attached, is sometimes underwhelming, but when you get a good one…it definately fills me with surprise, every time.
